STUDIO 54
I got dressed this day and immediately texted my friend that I looked like I stepped right out of Studio 54.
The white wide-legged jumpsuit, the big curly ponytail, the earrings, etc. all put me in the mind of a night out on the town in 1972 lol. I actually LIVE for ‘70s vibes. How amazing were those clothes??! Like c’mon, everything was lit. Life seemed lit. Well…of course the blatant racism and prejudice was probably pretty awful but other than that…I can dig it lol.
The ‘70s just seemed like such an expressive time where you could wear loud colors, bell bottoms, crazy patterns, platform heels, bug-eyed sunglasses and big hair without anyone batting an eye. Everybody showed their personality through their outfits and that idea speaks to me. And what’s even crazier is that the men might’ve actually been more OD than the women! I live! I love looking at old pics of my family and checking out their looks. They just seemed so carefree and lively. Sometimes, I wonder what the younger generations will think about our fashion sense. Honestly, I’m not even sure what our fashion themes are these days because we use so many references from past generations. Of course, most of what we wear is from the ‘90s so I’m not sure that they’ll be able to differentiate what’s different with us.
So, what’s your favorite timeframe in terms of style? These days, anything goes so you can easily bring some elements from other years into the mix and make them work for today. I love big hair and loud colors so no matter what I’ll always try to incorporate those things into my looks. This jumpsuit was a purchase for my birthday dinner a few years ago and I hadn’t pulled it back out until this shoot. I bought it from my favorite boutique in Soho (Necessary Clothing) where I always find something cute to step out in. The sandals are from Century21, the glasses are from a street vendor and the earrings are ASOS, I believe.
