MEXICAN MAYHEM
I’ve been back from vacation for weeks now buuuttttt I’m just getting around to sharing the tea…
We traipsed to Cancun, Mexico for my sister’s 40th birthday and IT WAS A BLAST. Her husband and his family joined us for some fun in the sun on the last weekend in June. We stayed at the Hyatt Zilara and it was honestly, the perfect place to be. I really loved every single thing about this resort. It was all-inclusive so we barely had any reason to leave. We ate and drank at several of the onsite restaurants and ordered room service every morning. The whole trip was full of good food, ample beach time at the gorgeous all-white cabanas, lounging in the pool and relaxing on my balcony overlooking the beach. I somehow lucked up and got a 2-story suite all to myself so I was honestly living my very best life. I don’t know why I didn’t take some pics of the room! I did however take a video when I first arrived that I posted on my IG stories.
Anyway, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to visit Cancun in the near future. We finally left the luxury of the resort one day and headed down to a nearby plaza to do a little shopping/eating. It was like 128 degrees outside but we powered through and picked up a few souvenirs and gifts for my mom and aunt since their birthdays are coming up. That evening, we stopped at a local eatery and devoured some authentic Mexican food that left us all happy and full. The last day was spent lounging at the pool and evening out my tan (and inevitably, my sunburn :-/) before hopping back on a plane to NYC. It was such a much-needed break in paradise and I couldn’t have asked for a better trip. The only downside was my severe skin condition when I returned home. I’m pretty sure I had heat rash and sunburn at the same time and I was MISERABLE for days. Honestly, so much calamine lotion and Cortisone gel was consumed. I will say though that Cortisone gel (not the cream) works wonder so in case you have ridiculously sensitive skin like mine, take my word for it and stock up. I guess the Mexican heat did not agree with my already problematic skin because I swear I’ve never had any issues that severe before. For some reason, no matter how much sunblock is applied, I always get a bit of heat rash during beach days but this was next level. So uncomfortable.
But, a little skin mishap won’t damper my outlook on the trip. I’m already trying to brainstorm my next adventure. I really wanted to do some water sports or a excursion this time around but nobody was really down to accompany me. This group was all about relaxing and chiilin’ which I totally understand. Next time I go on vacation, I’ll likely be with my group of friends and they are wild and crazy so I’m sure they’ll be ready to get reckless as hell. LOL.
In a few weeks, I’ll be heading back to Miami (this will be my 3rd time going) for ColorComm! I really can’t wait to experience this illustrious conference and spend more time doing what I love which is spending time in the sun and by the water. So, what was your favorite vacation? Next time I go back to Mexico, I want to try out Tulum which has been all the rage for the past few years. Check the descriptions under a few of the pics for swimsuits deets. I didn’t do much picture taking other than swimsuits because my phone was being annoying and I didn’t want to bother everyone “like take a picture of me!” every damn time I changed clothes lol.
As always, thanks for reading. xoxo - Ashley
