LIFE LATELY
I figured today’s post will be an update on my life lately…
I did one of these previously and I think I’ll keep it up! So, what has your girl been up to? Hmm…let’s see. A few weeks ago, I went to “A Moderated Conversation with Former First Lady: Michelle Obama” and it was so great! If you don’t know by now, I LOVE Michelle Obama. Love. Very much. People have been telling me since 2007 that I look like her…literally stopping me on the street, in the grocery store, in church, etc. to tell me that we resemble each other. She’s certainly an idol of mine. So, I jumped on the opportunity to go see her speak at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The place was pretty packed with Michelle’s adoring fans and I’d say we all thoroughly enjoyed hearing her chat about her book “Becoming”, her upbringing on the South Side of Chicago, her marriage to Barack and her young adult daughters that apparently don’t listen to a word she says in their older age ha. I’m honestly going to take every opportunity I can to see this woman impart her wisdom on us. I missed the book tour the first time around so I was not going to miss this. And she didn’t disappoint. The conversation was moderated by Michelle’s former chef and head of her Let’s Move campaign that addressed childhood obesity so it was obvious that they had been very close and felt very comfortable talking to each other. I think that really enhanced the conversation because it removed any awkwardness from their interactions and felt like two old friends chatting. Highly recommend if the event comes to your city!
I also partied with a good friend for her birthday at boozy brunch and then on to a few other spots in Harlem that I definitely want to try again. We started at Dutch Fred’s which was somewhat random (in Hell’s Kitchen) but I enjoyed my food so I’d recommend it. Then, we headed to Sugar Monk which was so cute! I had a very tasty cucumber gin cocktail that I couldn’t get enough of. After that, we ended the night at La Diagonal and to be honest, I don’t even remember what I ordered there (I was several drinks in at this point lol) but I definitely want to go back because I’ve heard good things. I love days like that one. They start early with boozy brunch (my favorite weekend activity) and end with a newfound appreciation for the city and a bedtime by 9pm. ;) Right up my alley. Not that I normally go to sleep at 9pm…I’m not a grandma, c’mon! Just staying, I like the idea of daytime activities where you can have a great time and still be home at a decent hour.
Anyhoo, I included some pics of both events below. The Michelle O. outfit was all old pieces — a Shein sweater, sparkly Zara pants and snakeskin Sam Edelman booties. The brunch outfit was some new croc pants from Missguided and my new white boots from PrettyLittleThing. The boots are super comfortable and were such a good steal! Can’t wait to style them with everything this season.
Check back later this week for another installment of #AcesList. Can’t wait to tell you all about what I’ve been reading, watching and buying! Thanks for reading. xoxoxoxo - Ash
