MOH DUTIES
So, as you know, I was the Maid of Honor in one my best friends’ weddings in ATL last weekend.
Ava and I have been friends literally since birth. Our families are close and they all grew up together. Her aunts are best friends with my mom and aunt and they’ve always spent a lot of time together. So, we had no choice! We could’ve either turned out to be best friends or arch enemies I guess lol. When I moved from Houston to Dallas at the age of 13, Ava welcomed me with open arms. We went to junior high and high school together, danced as Richardson High School Eaglettes together (and became Officers of the team), spent weekends hanging out and just generally became very close. I like to say that she's really my second sister, not my best friend.
With all of that being said, it was such an honor to be asked to be her Maid of Honor. I was a little surprised honestly because I assumed that she would ask her oldest sister but her sister stepped up to plan the wedding and confirmed that she didn’t want to plan it AND be in it, which I totally understand. As you probably remember, I planned the Bachelorette Party in NOLA earlier this summer and posted about it here. The wedding festivities finally commenced on Friday, Sept 14 in Douglasville, GA. Ava’s wedding was a really proud moment for me. I’m so proud of the woman that she has become and so happy to see the amazing bond that she has built with her new husband, De’Angelo. I can only hope and pray that one day I’ll be in the same position. I traveled to ATL on Wed of last week and helped Ava finish off the last minute touches for the wedding. We picked flowers, we ran errands, we packed bags, we made beauty supply runs, we ate, we drank, we had a blast. Ava is one of the most resourceful people I know and that really came to light this past weekend watching her pull together a wedding on a budget by tapping into all of her resources, family and friends. It turned out so beautiful and I’m so happy we didn’t have any major drama to deal with!
As for the look, I chose this amazing rose gold sequined Lulu’s dress for the bridesmaids and let everyone choose their own rose gold/gold/nude shoes. I also picked these super cute dangly Forever 21 earrings and a dainty bracelet that we actually didn’t end up wearing. Ava purchased some gorgeous rose gold initial bracelets for our bridesmaid gift so we wore those instead. I honestly can’t wait to wear this dress again! It made me feel beautiful. I looked long and hard for a dress that would be wearable but most importantly, fly! Something that didn’t feel like a normal bridesmaid dress because I cannot stand normal bridesmaid stuff. No offense to anyone but it’s just not my thing. I’m actually considering having my future bridesmaids (if I even choose to have them) wear all white. I like the idea of staying away from the usual wedding norms and thinking outside the box a bit.
Ava chose her dress on a solo mission and sent me pics later and I loved her choice. It was so HER. Perfect for her small frame, just enough pizazz, elegant and unique. The flower crown was such a great last minute addition, too. Again, that crown was very her. She’s a flower crown kinda gal. And of course, the colors pulled everything together.
Now, get ready for a TON of pics! My family was also in attendance (I told you we were all close!) so you’ll see some faces that maybe look a little like mine in the mix. ;) Hope you enjoy these shots. Here’s to an amazing week ahead! xo - Ashley
